I went with the heavy-duty flatbed trailer from Wike (also a Canadian company) for my Rover:  https://wicycle.com/products/bike-trailers/heavy-duty-flatbed.  It's got 20" wheels and very well made.  I also prefer a hitch that attaches to the axle bolt rather than the seatpost.  They also make a kit version you can customize.  I previously used a cheap kids trailer but the Wike cargo trailer is much more versatile:  trips to the trash/recycling center with bulky loads and even hauls my lawn mower and tools for some landscaping work I do.   But lots of good options out there !

RadWagon / Re: Floor pump

I've had good luck with this one:  https://amzn.to/3coMqCv.  And since I sometimes change tire pressure on my Rad Rover on the go, I bring this small battery powered Cyplus pump with me, which works great:  https://amzn.to/3cqmsOS

General Chat / Battery cover question
March 22, 2021, 05:27:22 PM
I use an insulated battery cover for winter riding here in Vermont, which seems to give the battery a little more stamina in really cold weather..  It also keeps water and dirt off the tray.   Is there any downside to using the insulated cover in warm weather?   It's a bit of a pain to remove/reinstall.

This $30 insulated cooler bag from Amazon fits the large basket like it was made for it: " ACABELLE Insulated Food Delivery Bag XXL-19.7"x10.3"x10.3" Waterproof Storage"

If your Thule hitch-mounted rack is a platform type (like the Hollywood Rack sold by Rad)_, where the wheels sit in a tray rather than having the bike hang by the frame, try this trick:  position the bike at a slight angle to the rack and so that the front wheel is a little past the tray for the front wheel.  Then hold down the brake for the rear wheel while pulling up and back on the handlebars.  Then set the front wheel if the front wheel tray.   Finally, lift the back end of the bike (only half the weight to lift now) and set the rear wheel in the rear tray.  Easier to do than to describe!

General Chat / Insulated bag for large basket

I was looking for a bag for the large basket I recently mounted on my Rover to use for grocery shopping. The bag on the Rad website seemed a bit pricey, and it isn't insulated (the insulated Rad bags don't fit the basket).  Searching online for "insulated delivery bags" and "soft-side coolers" turned up lots of options in different sizes at different prices.

General Chat / Charger timer

I tend to forget to unplug my battery charger.  This $10 timer was the solution — set it for 1-6 hours depending on how much charge you need:  BN-LINK 12 Hour Mechanical Accurate Countdown Tim...

I got a Rover 5 this winter, and it climbs the hills here in Vermont without a problem (paved, dirt and xc ski trails).  I'm delighted with it.   I have a bike trailer to carry a grandchild and groceries.   But you'll need a heavy-duty bike rack, like the Hollywood, to transport the bike unless you can fit it inside your car or truck.

General Chat / Bike rack indicator lights
February 28, 2021, 03:05:41 PM
The CURT AUXILIARY LED INDICATOR LIGHTS #53201 are a great safety addition to the Hollywood and other hitch racks, especially if your bike is covered during transport and your vehicle's rear lights are obscured. The lights install quickly and easily without any tools.  A few zip ties help with keeping the wiring tidy.

RadRover / Re: Bottle holder?

MRI-Denver has a front bottle holder bracket that mounts to the front stem, under the handlebars, using existing threaded holes on the bike, even with a front rack attached.  You can mount right- and left-opening bottle cages to the bracket.  I had to tweak mine a tad to get the holes on the bracket  to line up exactly with the threaded holes on the bike, but it works great.

The folding type are sturdy, but heavy, and mount handily on the Rover's water bottle mount

RadRover / BOB trailer for Radrover?
January 17, 2021, 03:02:37 PM
Has anyone had any luck hitching a BOB trailer to a Radrover?  How did you do it?  Or any luck with any other trailers and hitch systems?
