General Chat / Re: Speed and responsibility
February 21, 2022, 12:25:16 PM
I agree with you mtngrl.
The modding and tinkering aspect is kind of fun to do to bikes. I have a mini 4 and Runner Plus but I have not modded any to increase the power.
Pretty much All cars can exceed the speed limit for pretty much everyone respects the posted speed limit. So I guess it's a matter of choice for the speed someone wants to travel at.
My bikes are the way I get around and I have to admit I enjoy the slower pace of life on a bike. Here in Boise there are a lot of people who ride bikes and I get past by non e-bikes all the time.
There are also a lot of e-bikes and I see most of them ride at a respectful speed. I do know one person who has an e-bike capable of 55 mph who rides on the road. Him and I have had some pretty long discussions about this.

I know four people who either race or ride mountain bikes recreationally who hated e-bikes and now those four people own at least one and are  thoroughly enjoying it for commuting. It helps not arriving at work while sweaty during the summer.

The most important thing I think is e-bikes allow many people who would never ride a regular bike to be out there on a bicycle and it seems like these people spend more and more time on their bikes replacing trips with their cars. Less cars on the road is always a better thing.

If everyone is respectful on their e-bikes then they will be no reason to have additional rules and regulations regarding e-bikes.

RadMini / Re: who is it for
February 21, 2022, 12:11:52 PM
Regarding the step over or step through.
If you look at the new mountain bikes and the new BMX bikes the crossbar is angled and is slowly moving further and further down.

That cross bar can also be rather uncomfortable if you land on it so I'm not sure why it's always been called a bike for men

I agree strongly with the other reasons people have said a step through is better than step over in this thread.

Wow!! Thank you. That may work. I'm surprised others have not posted about lack of extension bars. I think I am missing something here.

RadRover / Re: Bolton 35amp controller. Any issues?
February 17, 2022, 06:08:16 AM
I'm most curious about this burnt out part of the board for the lights.
Question to anyone here who is knowledgeable with the Bolton controller. Does the Bolton controller allow you to set the controller so it doesn't go over 750 watts?

I too have also heard that and I also heard that it's the same motor all the way around.
Something for you to try. Go to the display settings and change your wheel size from 22 to 20 and see if you can notice a difference. You do this by holding the plus minus buttons simultaneously. You can also change your cutoff speed from 20 mph and increase it.

Rad Power Bikes Classifieds / Re: Rad Mini 4 LCD Display
February 17, 2022, 05:52:47 AM
Wow that really is odd behavior. And once the bike dies if you just simply turn the key off all the way to the unlock position it does not reset the display and controller?
Please post a follow-up once you have the new controller installed. Did they ask you to send back the old controller? If not I would suggest trying to or sending it to someone with another mini and seeing if it works on their bike.
The only electronic problems I've had with my mini 4 is the dreaded error 25 which is the tail light issue. Fairly easy to remedy.

Rad Power Bikes Classifieds / Re: Rad Mini 4 LCD Display

I did not have a display. I'm curious about your problem though.
How long will your bike run before it cuts out?
Do you have the lights on the bike when the bike cuts off?
Do you get any error messages on the display when the bike cuts out?
Where did you get the replacement throttle? I'm curious about the throttle because I would like to switch mine to a thumb throttle instead of a twist throttle.

Service & Repair / Re: Rad-Mini Spoke size and source
February 15, 2022, 10:51:44 AM
Wow some good reading in this post. I had no idea that was such an issue with trying to read spoke tension small wheels. I've been out very curious to know how they build the wheels and maybe this is why we have problems with our spokes.

I have never come across a video or a post on someone who has changed the height of the stem.
I'm sitting here looking at my bike thinking that the stem height may not be able to be reduced due to the geometry of the bike.
Again I have never come across someone who has done this to the mini 4 so I'm not sure it can be done.

I have yet to take apart my headset so I'm unsure if it's an old school quill set or modern conventional headset.

RadMini / Replacement kickstand
February 15, 2022, 09:15:06 AM
Has anyone replaced the kickstand on the mini 4? I stand had its last kick and I'm in need of a new one.

Yes that is correct for the wheelbase.
Total length is 71.5 versus 68 and the chain stay is 19 versus 20.2. Frame size is 18 versus 16.

When on the bike the saddle is in a lower position on the runner when your legs are in the correct position on the pedals. The bike truly feels low to the ground and does have a lower center of gravity which makes it incredibly stable.
The Runner Plus is a utility bike and the mini is not even though I did my best to try and convert it to that.
The runner Plus is like a small pickup truck on the road when compared to the standard cargo bike. Therefore I feel the runner plus has greater  versatility than the mini series.
What's important to note in my opinion is that neither of these bikes ride like a normal bike. The extreme upright riding position removes peddling efficiency but this is made up by the electric motor therefore you have comfort and efficiency which makes e-bikes comfortably efficient to get around on.

RadRunner / Handlebar extension
February 15, 2022, 05:54:56 AM
Has anyone successfully found a handlebar extension that fits on the cross bar of the handlebars?
The cross bar is oval on my runner plus and the regular handlebar extensions don't clamp down far enough to use
