I am looking to add a front basket to my Rad City Bike and am wondering if anyone has added a non-Rad front basket.  I am looking at something with a quick release and handle for shopping.  I did see someone added an Electra quick release basket to their Rad City, but not sure how they attached it or modified the bike to make it work.  I am also looking at the Ortlieb Rack Box for the back rack.  It looks like it will secure nicely and is a great cooler for picnics.

What I'd probably do is still buy the front rack directly from Rad and then find a basket to fit the front. Some folks use those collapsible bins that are secured to the rack with screws. Others have used milk crates which you could temporarily attach with either bungee cords or a cinch strap. I suppose you might be able to use handlebar extenders like these: https://amzn.to/2KhP929 and then buy something with a quick release similar to this: https://amzn.to/3eztgt7

Whether this fits or not you'd probably just have to test it out. I think the attachment without the extender is probably too bulky with the screen which is why you'd need the extenders. We have found a styrofoam cooler that fits perfectly in a milk crate which we have used for picnics if you're looking for a budget option. For shopping you may also want to look into pannier bags, they are going to hold a lot more than a front basket.

Hope this helps and let us know what you decide.

I'm looking for the exact same thing! I think the only way to make it work is to buy the front rack and bungy or clip the basket. I was gonna buy some of these "cable cuffs" to use for my grocery getters  (but I haven't tried them yet) . I just watched an install video on the Electra basket and it looks like it just might work. Good luck!

Interesting that Ortlieb Rack Box!

sloppy

Those handle bar extenders wont hold any weight.  Or at least not like basket with groceries in it weight.

I have one of the baskets with quick detach on a bike  its OK(until you fill it up). Most quick detach baskets for the front are made to hang off the bars.  you can definitely feel that load and it changes handling.  Like Ryan suggested get the rad rack and then find a basket that sits on rack.  I am running a walmart milk crate thing it works but I find when loaded its kinda unstable.  I have ordered a heavy wired rack to replace I think I order the sunlight rear rack.  Even with a slightly wiggly plastic front crate it is way better that a handle bar basket.

Topeak and Ibera both have rear racks with quick disconnects either one could be added to the rad front rack. Topeak would be the easier system to adapt.
