Here is a good conversation about this:
https://electricbikereview.com/forums/threads/guidelines-for-safe-motor-temperature.23777/

And for the coolest temps I guess the battery will get "frozen" first before anything else... Of course depending on the rider ;)

I recommend you to take a look at the Endless Sphere forum - lots of Bafang etc. related stuff:

e. Perhaps this could be the way to disassemble the motor on your case too?

Rad Modifications / Folding stem
July 03, 2020, 12:08:49 PM
One big issue with commuting to my work place is where to keep my bicycle while I work that ~8 hours every day. Of course not now because of this Covid-19. But after that again.

Has anyone tried this on their Rad and if yes, how did it work for you?
https://flatbike.com/product/thinstem/

My company's office is in an old classic building with old doors. Doors that are quite narrow, and even without trying I know it will be a challenge to get my RadRhino inside the building. I really don't want to let my Rad stay in rain and snow all day (Finland it is, yikes!).

So folding stem like this would be a life saver. At home too.

Thanks for this, very useful info.  :D

I could not open the Word doc file with my Tapatalk, even MS Word mobile app refused to open it. So decided to convert it to a screen capture photo.

General Chat / Re: Motor issue

I'm not sure if it is a motor issue, but I have noticed strange sound from the motor (or somewhere nearby). It's not too noisy but constant, and sounds like coming from the motor. When it occurs and if I stop pedalling and the motor assist stops, the sound stops as well. When I start pedalling again, the sound gets quieter and not being a constant sound anymore. And if I repeat this once or twice more, the sound disappears. Coming again after a while. Like it was dependend on what position the gears inside the motors are at the time, if I had to guess.

Has anyone else noticed similar? Because I am still on warranty, it would be good to fix these things... :) Otherwise no problem with the motor, works well.

A very good question. Ok, if things get really bad, you could always change the cells inside the battery case. Not cheap too, but the last plan B. Good side of these chinese ebike systems, you cannot do the same by yourself f.ex. with the Bosch's batteries.

Have been there myself too once, with my first ebike. First the motor went bad, then the battery died... It was the first ebikes with Chinese components. Probably the Bafang did not exist yet that time. Luckily both happened when still under warranty. But yes, not something I would like to experience again.

After that I rode that ebike happily more than 7 years without any problem on the electric system.

how long did it take for them to respond?
First of all it was about 7 years ago with other ebike brand, and a local Finnish company (I live in Finland) without any Covid-19 issues. These days anything takes a long time, not only with the RPB customer service.

@rdrutan Missing magnets?? That must be a very bad luck part from the factory's production line... What year model your Rad Rover is? I think I should keep on eye mine as well.. Easy to get hits on that part if you like going offroad.

For me the Radwagon's 750W rear hub motor would be the thing. Also its capability to carry even 2 kids on the rear rack. Or any other stuff. Clearly a good choice for replacing the car. :)

That Vanmoof S3 looks very interesting though.

They seem to be very busy at least here in Europe:
