General Chat / Re: Rad the worst e-bikes on the market
October 23, 2020, 11:04:09 AM
Around 900 miles or 1900 kilometres on my Rad Rhino. Winter, rain, salty sea water, sand, dust. Still rocking and rolling. Yes, needs quite a lot of maintenance. But much much less than our car. And much much more fun than our car. :) I think the Rad quality is same than any other Bafang / Chinese based ebikes with basic components. Ehat makes the Rad bikes better than else is the customer support. I have not needed it myself but all those positive reviewes just cannot be fake.

And this is the road for quiting using cars for even the shortest trips. I sold my car because most the trips I made with it was less than 15 km. Maybe less than 10 miles or so. And in Finland we have these special things called taxes that make owning a csr very expensive... So I have saved alot of money. And nature.

Imagine all this happened while driving a French made car. :)

But yes this is why I love hub motors!

General Chat / Re: IS IT A 750 WATT MOTOR OR NOT???
October 18, 2020, 03:37:32 AM
With not many hills here where I live in Finland, the 750W peak power gives me more than enough torque and speed. And 90% of the time PAS level 3 is enough to ride the bicycle comfortably for me. But I'm happy to know there is that extra kick still available when I need it, f.ex. strong headwind and/or soft surface (snow, sand).

But does someone know if using the peak power 750W for a long period of time make some extra wear to the motor? Of course the battery drains pretty quickly, maybe not so good thing too.

If everything else fails, perhaps this could do it (or some other similar product)?

Rad Modifications / Re: possible water damage.

I have been riding few times on a very heavy rain, maybe 10-15 mins. Also while heavy snowing, so snow has melted and turned into water around the cables etc. Once felt off and bike ended partially on salty sea water. I recall only the hub motor and perhaps controller went under water for few seconds. Also for few nights my bike has been under light rain, because I forgot to put the cover on.

I guess I am very lucky since no electrical problems so far. Bike is 2019 RadRhino (750W EU if that matters anything).

General Chat / Re: Visited a Bike Shop Yesterday

Same thing here in Finland if you go to a local bike shop and ask them the same question. The answer will be "Do not buy from online shops, you will get in big trouble! Buy from my shop, I will give you the best service in world!"

Bisnes is bisnes as you can see. ;)

Here's the good old way to check the wheel size:

What does the speed display and GPS speed say while you riding?

I got the 26" RadRhino but since the fat tires are so big, I have to choose 28" in the settings for the wheel size. Otherwise the display on bike will show the range and speed slightly wrong.

Service & Repair / Re: Brakes RadRover (RadRhino)

Hi!
I bought a RadRhino (EU version of RadRover) in the winter and rode 700km (435miles). All good except for the brakes. I needed to adjust them 2 times already and now it seems like the front disc is bent as well.
Does anyone else have issues with brakes? Did anyone upgrade them for hydraulic?
Thanks,
Vid

I have exactly the same ebike, and also needed to adjust the brakes at least twice already. 1300+ km so far. And it seems my rear brake pads are pretty worn out already too. Not sure if some sand from my beach rides have done the job. Also getting that

The brake discs are really thin so they can be bent really easy. Not a big job to get them straight though.

This guy changed to SRAM hydraulic brakes:

I found this great Youtube video of the Swedish company called Biltema and its ebike battery packs:https://youtu.be/23SVz23RkbA

Biltema's ebikes are usually good quality for the price, but this kind of shocked me to know their batteries are also designed to get useless after certain time. Like the HP printers or Samsung LCD TVs some time ago.

Alternative way to get a new battery for your Rover or Rhino:

Couldn't find that triangle one anymore, but there are many under the HaiLong brand. With the battery you get a new charger and mount for the battery. This one in the eBay UK:

So with the instructions one can get a new battery for much cheaper price than if buying the original. I might find better connectors though... ;)

Same. One will learn the right torque after few times. If not enough, it will fall down. If too much, it will get broken. Your wallet size will tell you how fast you will learn. ;)

Small indicator led light would be good showing when the throttle is activated. Because I have noticed when you have turned on your bike and accidentally twist the activated throttle while the bike is on stand, some funny things can happen... But as always we will learn after few mistakes - hopefully ;)

Did you get trapped? Not using any battery?
Well almost... ;) But just noticed my gear shifter pointer(?) seems to be stuck on the first photo. Crashed my bike once...

Doesn't really matter, but made me thinking if I buy a new shifter would I have to change the cable too?

e. It seems that yes, I have to change the cable too:
