Experienced probably a frozen gears issue while ago, not 100% sure what caused it though. Then yesterday after riding my RadRhino on deep snow and back at home, noticed there were melted snow around the hub motor:

There were some melted snow around the controller too:

Is this because my motor is the 750W (more power => more heat?) version or do the 250W motors have similar heating, so that snow will melt in about -5 C ? This is the first time I have been ridden in deep snow with ebike.

It will be interesting to start the bike next time and see how the gears etc. work... :)

General Chat / Re: New bike battery what to do
January 09, 2021, 01:55:36 PM
Without any intelligent charger that would show you the exact charge level of your battery, best is to charge it to full with the original charger. Then leave for a month, and recharge. Full charge is better than no charge. Empty battery will get dead quite soon. How do I know?... :)

Rad uses 48V output for the light?
#35
Thanks for sharing this, clear and simple. So far I am using a power bank for any 5V-12V devices, since I don't want to mess up with my bike while under warranty time. But after that this will be on my to-do list. ;)

My wifes Rad City with 1750 miles has many issues. Before going any further all connections have been checked multiple times and the battery is fully charged. Here's the issues.
1. Turn key to on and then push LCD contol middle button toturn on display. Display turns on but pushing the middle button again does not turn off display. You need to turn key off for display to yurn off.

2. Pedal assist goes up by pushing top botton, but does not go down by pushing bottom button. Must turn bike off with key to reset pedal assist to 1.

3. Pushing middle and top buttons does not turn on headlight or taillight.

4. Pushing middle and top buttons puts LCD screen into program mode and displays "prgrm" and below that it displays "1435".

Anyone ever had these issues?

Well, this must be a great coincident but after my reply to your post I got e-x-a-c-t-l-y the same issues that you describe here. Every single one. Only the code was different, "prog" and "1392". My Rad is the RadRhino 750W EU version model year 2019.

And yes, it's been rainy weather here as well and I have kept my bike outdoor as well as riding it in rain. Now the temperature went down and my problems started. Brakes were slightly frozen too.

What seems to help was just letting the bike dry out inside my house, and unplugging all the connectors + spray some electronic cleaner to remove any water and dirt. I also opened the button module and display module, but they seem quite waterproof. Only possible way water could go inside the modules is through the cable holes, but cannot see what kind of insulation they have used with them.

Time will show if this was the cure or it will come back. Possible that something is corroded inside the modules already...

Edit: and yes, better cover the switch and display modules with something. Also better at least cover the bicycle with something, even better to keep it warm inside the house... :)

Got the new controller today. Fitted it and all seems to be ok. Give it a ride tomorrow
Thanks for the info how it was fixed. I suppose one can order a new controller from the RPB, but does anyone knows what the price is in case the bike is not under warranty anymore? Or perhaps it would be better changing both the display and controller at the same time to something better...

If under warranty, contact the RPB customer service - they will help you.

For me it sounds like the button switch module or the display itself is the resson and perhaps faulty.

Good questions were made already, is the bike stock? Is there way to reset settings to default?

I would be very careful trying to use that battery again.

Of course it could be just a faulty connector, either on the battery or on the battery holder side. Try to search "Hailong Battery Case Power Discharge connector Plug 4pins 5pins Male" or with similar words, Rad's battery case looks pretty much same than the HaiLong made.

And you should check for shortcuts on the battery holder connector, and also check the voltage of the battery.

Of course these are just and only my best guesses without any real knowledge about repairing any kind of faulty ebike batteries! :)

^Ok, so I perhaps counted it right this time [emoji2] Thanks!

Odd thing is that the Rad EU customer support answered me slightly different:
"The chains used on our bikes are the KMC Z7 with 120 links. We also have these available for sale, if you wish to purchase one directly from us."

The price is 20 EUR + delivery costs 15 EUR to Finland which is not that much. But I just wonder how much difference it will make 120 vs. 122 links....
Got new chains this week, and built a 122 link chain from two 114 link chains (KMC Z7) yesterday. Also purchased two spare chains of same type for the future needs. After short test drive gears are changing smoother and chains make less noise.

Price was around 9 EUR per chain including delivery costs, so this time following the DIY method saved me some money compared to the RPB customer service's offer earlier. ;)

I've got the RadRhino 750W my 2019 EU version, and it has the E10.11 brake pads:

General Chat / Re: First aid kit?
October 27, 2020, 02:11:47 PM
Good point! Even a cyclist can carry a first aid kit, absolutely true. Especially ebike riders when the weight and size of the kit does not matter so much.

I got one smaller one with me on my motorbike, but never thought I could carry one on my ebike aswell. I will buy one for sure now.

Never know when you see someone who needs help. One important thing is to stop the bleeding, and that is what you can carry with your bicycle.

Rad Rhino, just counted the length of its chain and got 122 links. Have to believe my eyes, I always though it was the 114 links version of KMC z7 chain. Or am I counting it wrong - can someone who got Rad Rhino or Rover verify this? :)
