RadRover / Re: Day One - Rad Rover 6 Plus Step-thru's

I'll be sharing some videos soon of the RadRover 6 Plus going up the hill that I take all of our ebike reviews on. Anything else you all want to know in my short first impressions video?

Hi Ryan.... I found your report that you were able to make a purchase of 2 R.R.6 + there in San Diego. I just called the retail store in Vancouver Canada and was told that the Rad Rover 6 isn't available anywhere "in the world" for retail sales. Somehow I'd expect the USA to receive their RR6 first or efore Canada. Thats the "usual" . And Im not saying you didn't get the bikes...Im sure you did !!  But why are Rad E bikes in different cities getting and delivering different information ??  ...If Rad E Bikes is monitoring this forum at all as I expect they might,..... why the different info? Why the different standards ?  Can I expect the USA online customer orders to be filled first before the Canadian market?  How long are we going to have to wait????

Hello to those of you watching this posting.
Perhaps this is common knowledge to some people and perhaps why there haven't been many comments ....
but as an update I wanted to post that I called Rad bikes in Vancouver, BC, Canada about availability of the new Rad Rover 6 plus. I have read on other Ebike forums, where theres kind'a sketchy info,..... that people are enjoying their Rad Rover 6's. According to the retail store in Vancouver, the Rad Rover 6 is NOT available anywhere on the planet as of today and aren't scheduled to be available before mid to late October,2021.   So....
my plan to possibly purchase a couple of them on my next trip south from where I am and then cancel my online order is a bust. Now I just have to wait and hope that the online orders will get first dibs and I'll get mine there abouts in Oct .....of this year.  Fingers crossed.

Starting to feel left out here.... no coupons for rad Canadian owners.  Come on Rad lets be fair....

Are the bikes the two of you ordered new editions of the models? If they are models that have been around a while, I can understand that you'd have them fairly quickly.

My order was for 2 Rad Rover 6 Plus's.  I think I'll call the Rad E bike retail store and see if they have any in stock. Maybe I can cancel my online order and pick them up from the store. It doesn't seem fair if they're selling them retail while online orders that are fully paid for, take a back seat. IMHO

Hi folks I hope everyone is doing well .
I'm hearing that there is a great shortage of parts for Ebikes, everywhere. .... and troubles getting products shipped to North America, not to mention accessories for Ebikes and Rad Products specifically. Are online customers to expect delays on receiving their already fully paid for E-bikes??? I believe I  was one of the earlier online customers to order not one but 2 Rad Rovers for myself and my wife. Im also
hearing that retail / in store sales are happening ahead of the online orders. Is any of this true and factual?   I was told they wouldn't be available until Oct 18th. But never told if that was retail only

Hello again,  My wife and I still have a while to go before we receive our new Rad Rover 6 plus bikes by the end of Sept / beginning of October.
{ if they're on time...fingers crossed.} But we're heading from our home soon, in the south Cariboo area of B.C. Canada for a visit down to the coast to see our "kids" and grandkids. While we're there in the Vancouver area we're headed into the big city of Vancouver to hopefully take a look at what we bought and if all goes well take a test spin on the new Rover 6. Can't wait !!! I feel like a kid at Christmas time.  But I'm not sure this test ride is a good thing or not. Will it drive the anxiousness to have our own bikes "in hand" ??  I sure hope their expected delivery time is what they say it is. Somehow I'm halfway expecting to be told that "due to covid" { because covid screws everything up } theres going to be a delay in getting your new Rad Rover 6 plus to you.  I expect to be one of the first in line to receive the new bikes, as it was released and
{pre-ordered} The Very Next Day after "sleeping on it" and seeing and reading up on the R.R.5.. I'm sure there will be hundreds of us "first in line" folks who ordered the first day. So ya I have my fingers crossed we hit the timing right.

General Chat / Re: crow foot for Pedal wrench

The pedal spindles on most modern bikes with 3-piece cranksets have 15mm tightening flats. You could also probably get away with using a 19/32" wrench if you have one. The OEM folding pedals on my 2020 RadMini 4 certainly conform to that spec. I don't have any other Rad models here now to verify, but can't think of any logical reason for them differing.

Most of the "pro brand" pedal wrenches (Park, Pedro's etc.) are made thin for a reason. You may find that a lot of conventional open-end and crowfoot adapter wrenches are too thick to fit between a fully tightened pedal and a crank arm without scarring one or both (they may fit in the gap to start, but may actually get trapped before the pedal is fully tightened).

I'll assume you understand the correct orientation off crowfoot adapters when using then with a torque wrench, or how to adjust torque values accordingly using a formula if using them "straight".

Rads also conform to industry standard pedal spindle thread sizes and thread handedness: Right pedals loosen by turning counter-clockwise (right handed threads, righty tighty, lefty loosey), Left pedals loosen clockwise (backwards of left handed threads).

Also, many pedals (Rad included)  have a 6mm hex socket on the pedal spindle end that threads into the crank arm so pedals can can be tightened/loosened that way (it's often packed with dirt), but putting enough torque on the pedal that way with most Allen wrenches (even "long handled" ones) would be a challenge without a "helper pipe/cheater bar" of some sort.

Ok thanks for the info. Yes I wondered if the crowfoot adapter for the pedal nut might get "trapped" towards the end. So what you're suggesting is to just go ahead and use the wrench supplied for assembly ? and that will be adequate ?  Thanks for the response.

Hello to everyone from a soon to be RAD Rover 6 plus owner X 2.  My name is Rick, a retired 67 year old newspaper pressman and presently live in the south Cariboo area of BC Canada.  I recently pre-ordered 2 Rad Rovers for both my wife and I. Unfortunately they won't arrive until October { I hope }. I'm enjoying reading the many topics covered here on the site, and the different ideas, upgrades, options that people post. All good information. Not sure it's pertinent but, I have several hobbies like hunting, fishing, but my main passion for a hobby is,... I build different stringed instruments ranging from full size electric guitars to 3 & 4 string cigar Box guitars to "oil can guitar" builds. I manage to sell most of what I make but managed to keep some of my favorites. Most of them are custom orders. But there's more to life than guitars and I'm really looking forward to getting on the roads and trails. I look fwd to meeting some of you here online and reading more about Rad Riding. Stay safe and well everyone.

Quote from: Rickyboy on July 28, 2021, 01:02:07 PMI want to purchase a couple of things to be ready for assembly, like a small torque wrench. I have a couple of large ones I use to torque car tires etc but nothing small. I also am trying to find out what size the pedal nuts are that need to be torqued so I can purchase the "crowfoot" attachment for the torque wrench.... Any suggestions?   Well happy "radding".

This is a VERY nice small torque wrench set:  https://amzn.to/37BS69q  They make 3 different finishes; I think this is the easiest to read for older eyes.

And since you won't be messing with pedals very often, this will do fine and fits various sizes:  https://amzn.to/3iCRQwY

Have fun!
Well I appreciate the help and suggestions Jim, but I'm going to have to look for a cheaper torque wrench. That's a little to rich for me.....being a pensioner on a fixed income and all. ... and unfortunately the the pedal wrench is out of stock apparently. But I do appreciate your help and suggestions. Do you happen to know the size needed for the pedals? I'd just buy the "crowfoot" attachment that will fit onto whichever torque wrench I end up buying.  Thanks again !!!

The hydraulic brakes were needed. Even though the originals work ok, it's a pain adjusting them every week.
They had to integrate the battery eventually. Although the shark battery is easy to upgrade, you still need to change the mounting plate which makes the original battery useless. The external battery was also a key point that every reviewer dinged them on, so it was time. The new controls are a big step forward, as is the ten segment battery meter. I would have preferred they put in an actual percent and voltage meter  though, and I hope they fixed the trip meter resetting every time you take a break.
I'm looking forward to performance testing, though they only needed to up the amps and claim "750 watts" nominal, while skirting the law with more peak power like everyone else. The stock Rad motor already handles 1600 watts anyways, but the controller holds it back. I also hope the controller programming is silky smooth like usual. I've ridden far more expensive bikes and e-mopeds, and the programming and controls were downright jerky and crude.
Hi ... I'm a new member here on the forum and just recently purchased the Rad Rover 6 for both my wife and I.  The day previous to the release I ALMOST !!! bought the Rad 5.  So although the price had increased  { in my opinion not a whole lot } I was glad I waited a day. But I had no idea there was even a "6" going to be released. Nothing like getting the "latest and greatest" model available. My disappointed kicked in when I learned { before purchasing} that delivery wasn't going to happen until the fall. Oh well that's the breaks. My wife and I are getting "up there" ... me a retired motorcycle rider, at 67 yrs old and my wife not too far behind me. So we want to stay active and keep the juices flowing and can't wait to "get radding".  So in the meantime I'm reading everything Rad ... I want to purchase a couple of things to be ready for assembly, like a small torque wrench. I have a couple of large ones I use to torque car tires etc but nothing small. I also am trying to find out what size the pedal nuts are that need to be torqued so I can purchase the "crowfoot" attachment for the torque wrench.... Any suggestions?   Well happy "radding".
