General Chat / Spare Battery
November 29, 2022, 02:09:37 PM
I have a spare battery for my RR6+.  Is it better to store this battery and not use it or circulate it into use with the other battery?  If storing it do I store it fully charged?

Thanks

Interesting to read this.  My HS simply will not stay in first gear.  I have maybe 40 miles on the bike and can shift into 1st gear but once I take my thumb off the shifter it immediately goes into 2nd gear and attempts to get into 3rd.  I know nothing about bikes or gears but can only assume it was not properly adjusted before they shipped it to me.  I probably  need to take it to a bike shop for a fine tuning but feel Rad should be responsible for assuring proper setup as I have had the bike only 2 weeks.

We did a 20 mile shake down ride yesterday and both of our new RR6s skip/slip in fifth gear. We have a Step through and a high step.  The HS has the Acera derailleur and the ST has the Altus.  The slip is worse on the HS.  I?m a bike mechanic so I check all the necessary things but it still slips.  The cassette itself has a lot of side to side play, but there is no play between the clogs.  It?s hard to tell if the chain is slipping over the teeth or if the cassette itself is slipping.  I can?t duplicate the problem on my bike stand as there needs to be a moderate amount of weight applied to the pedals.  I?ve reached out to Rad.  I?ll report back with what they said.

Service & Repair / Won't stay in 1st gear
November 11, 2022, 02:29:48 PM
We received our two RadRover 6+ a couple of weeks ago.  I have noticed that my bike (step over) will not stay in first gear.  When I shift into 1st and take my thumb off the shifter it immediately goes back into second gear and attempts to switch to third as well but does not quite make it.  The bike has only 40 miles on it.  I am assuming Rad did a poor job of setting it up before shipping it out?  How would I adjust this?

Thanks

Which end cap do you open...the side where the LED level bars are located or the opposite side?

The new Rad semi-integrated battery has internal fuses that are a bit difficult but not impossible to replace.

I got a battery from a Facebook group member that refused to charge after a couple of months. She sent it to me to examine. (She got a warranty replacement from Rad.)

The new battery has an aluminum tube-like case, and is opened from the ends. To open it, you must first pry off a cover at either end of the battery to expose T10 Torx screws. Remove 4 screws at each end.

The battery is well sealed against moisture. The end caps have rubber gaskets, and all exposed connections are sealed in silicone rubber. The battery assembly itself is fastened to the case at either end with silicone rubber. This must be cut at both ends to remove the battery assembly. To remove the assembly, I pushed from the power connector end, rotating the end cap to fit through the case.

The entire assembly is sealed in shrink wrap and more silicone. The fuses are at either end. Not knowing the internal construction, I made a bit of a mess opening the shrink wrap. Now knowing where the fuses are located, small flaps could be carefully cut in the shrink wrap to expose the fuses and then reseal the shrink wrap. Another Facebook member used my information and photos to replace a charge fuse by just opening the end caps, cutting the silicone, and pushing the charge fuse end out of the case a few inches. He then cut a small flap in the shrink wrap to expose the fuse. It is not necessary to completely disassemble as I did.

The charge fuse is 10A, possibly because the new charger is higher amperage? I'm charging with my standard 2A charger to confirm the fix. The battery arrived depleted, with 1 of 10 LEDs lit. At present I have 3 LEDs lit. The battery is presenting about 46V at the power port, consistent with 3 LEDs. I cannot test it on my Rover 5, but I have no reason to believe that it will not work; in fact it was working fine, just not charging.

I'm sure many other than me question the decision to require such disassembly to replace a fuse. Including Rad. This inexpensive fuse cost them a replacement battery.

General Chat / Front and Rear Rack Threaded holes
October 31, 2022, 12:52:43 PM
I know the answer is probably very simple but what are the four threaded holes on the top of the rack intended for?  Also, looking to replace the seat post to a more comfortable ride.  I am 6'1 and about 210 lbs.  I believe these come with standard 27mm posts?

Thanks!

General Chat / Repair Kit
October 12, 2022, 01:56:35 PM
Brand new here and this is my first post.  Just purchased 2 RadRover 6 Plus yesterday and am excited to start riding.  Thinking ahead can anybody recommend an emergency repair kit that I should have with me when riding?  I have no idea what tools to bring and am hoping there is one that can be purchased that covers the minimum requirements if needed.

Thanks
