That's not the normal motor used in Rad's US bikes, but it is possible your clutch plate was substituted since they are interchangeable, or someone shipped you a EU spec bike despite you ordering a US version. The G020350 is a physically smaller motor.

A genuine Rad 750 watt motor is built on the Bafang 500w core, but is custom wound for higher power using a . There is no reason in the world for anyone to freak out over this, because it will handle 1641 watts all day long and deliver 104nm of torque. I didn't get that off the internet or pre-build data sheets... I'm an engineer and tested it myself. As a matter of fact, the US Rad motor has more torque than the Bolton upgrade motor, and is more reliable.

Whether or not it was the normal motor used in Rad's US bikes, that's what came inside of my brand new RR5.  It came in a US labeled box and the controller peaked at 750W which is what the US version is touted as having. 

As far as interchanging parts, I find that hard to believe as nothing else on the motor would tell what version that it is.  It has no distinct "Rad" labeling on the inner motor itself.  The only thing "Rad" about the motor was the custom outer casing that the motor was fitted into. 

I would expect any reasonable person to question what they are getting when they open a supposed 750W motor and find a motor in its place that's stamped as being a 350W motor.  I just call it as I see it.  Rad was given the same photos and they offered no information as to it being a non-US version bike.  They also would not confirm whether it was a 350, 500 or 750 watt motor as it was designed, only that their motors can "handle" 750W of power. 

Rad went as far as to have Bafang draw up a letter which said the following:  "the customized motors made by Bafang exclusively for Rad are rated as 750W geared hub motors based on the testing standard that this customized motor can handle 750W of power input without overheating"

In plain terms, I read that as we can run 750W to it and it won't hurt it, so we can rate it as 750W.  That being said, if I take a core 350W motor and run 750W through it, it still doesn't make it a core 750W motor - regardless of whether or not it can safely handle the extra wattage. 

Again, this would never be an issue to me except that the motor on my RR5 is stamped as being a 350W motor. 

Last I just wanted to share another reply from someone over at Rad's Legal Team regarding this same issue.  In the letter it stated "Neither the CPSC regulations on ebikes nor the industry standard (UL 2849, the voluntary industry standard for safety for electrical systems for ebikes) specifies a test methodology for measuring the power input/output of a motor:  As a result, both the regulation and the voluntary standard rely on the certification seeker (Rad, in this case) to establish the motor rating."

According to that standard, you can start with any sized core motor - a 350W per say, and if it can handle 750W and not overheat....Hey we can label it as a rated 750W motor and sell it that way!  Is it now technically a 750W motor or is it sill a 350W as it was made?  That is the real question.  If it can handle 1000W is it then a rated 1000W geared hub motor?

Has anyone been able to see the controller on the RR6?  I know the RR5 controllers all have the amp rating on the back so it would be a good indicator of how much of a boost you could expect if the 35A controller is ever able to fit.

Thank you for that tip; my local bike-shop owner buddy mentioned that unique freewheel to me back when I bought my MiniST - he had to buy the tool to service another customer's Rad bike.  If I end up doing the upgrade someday, I'll either take the wheel to him or borrow the tool - good to know a standard replacement is no big deal.
I did buy the freewheel removal tool from Rad but it was after I had already purchased the replacement freewheel.  The Rad freewheel removal tool is just slotted to allow you to slip it over the motor wire.  Here is a link to the freewheel:

The freewheel tool is available from Rad but for some reason they don't list it on their website and the one that I did order goes to a blank page now in my order history.  I had to call them directly and they e-mailed me an invoice to buy it.  I assume that they would do the same if anyone else needs it but it seems they don't go out of their way to advertise it for sale on their website.  I attached a photo of what the freewheel tool looks like on my order history.

Is that the case for a motor swap only, or did you need to upgrade the controller and/or wiring as well to handle the extra current?  I'm considering doing a motor upgrade after warranty expires next spring and might pick up a motor in advance if I come across a good price.

I'm pretty happy with my stock MiniST, but extra torque would be nice on our hills; just not sure I want to hassle with changing controllers, mounts and pulling new wiring through the frame.

I can't speak as far as a motor only upgrade as I upgraded the motor and controller at the same time.  It was not necessary to upgrade any wiring as it was all plug and play.  The entire process was very simple and took only about an hour to do.  The one thing that I would recommend to anyone doing the motor upgrade would be to buy a replacement freewheel to install as it is very difficult and requires a special tool from Rad to remove the original one.  The OEM 11-34T freewheel is available right on Amazon.

FWIW, I am 6'2 and 295lbs and when I got my RR5 it worked decent on inclines but poorly on hills.  Seeing as how it was underpowered from the factory (confirmed to be a 350W Bafang motor) I upgraded the controller to the 35A version and also upgraded the motor to the 750W Bafang version.  It is the way this bike should have come from the factory in my opinion.  With the additional power, I have been seeing BETTER battery life because the motor is not working as hard.  There are no problems on hills and the bike can easily get to 25mph or even faster, even on inclines.

I would be very curious to see what motor is in the RR6+ motor casing.

I have a RR5 and also had pre-ordered the RR6+ however after some careful consideration, I cancelled the pre-order. 

It is 100% true that Rad will not release the specs on their RR5 motor.  I have inquired and was told they are not allowed to release that info - simply absurd. 

I took the motor apart myself to clear up any confusion.  The RR5 (2020 model) uses a Bafang BFRM G020 350D motor.  The specs are readily available on Bafang's own website.  The motor is listed as 350 watts at a MAXIMUM of 45N.m of torque. 

I find it especially concerning that Rad advertises the RR5 as having a 750 watt motor with 80 N.m of torque.  It is one thing to bump up the wattage to peak at 750 watts but a 350 watt motor is still a 350 watt motor. 

Having that in mind, I assume that the RR6+ is nothing more than the same 350 watt motor with a higher amperage controller to give a slightly higher boost.
