Title: Rad Power Bikes Controller and Motor Upgrades
Post by: Ryan on March 05, 2020, 06:23:06 PM
Bolton Ebikes just posted this helpful video for folks looking to potentially upgrade. Answers a lot of things I was curious about myself even though I don't plan to make any modifications anytime soon. One thing though I found really interesting is he's apparently working on a 1500 watt direct drive motor upgrade for the RadCity and RadWagon. That would be super fun to try out  8)

Note if you are interested Rjbur007 from the forum has a great thread on the controller upgrade for the RadWagon: https://www.radowners.com/index.php/topic,138.0.html (https://www.radowners.com/index.php/topic,138.0.html)

I am not sure DD is the way to go on the wagon.  Maybe if you get around the 3000 watt and 72 volt area it might be solid.  Gear or mid drive would probably suit it best.  That bike needs torque over speed.

But if he uses the right winds on a DD it might be OK.

I'm wondering how the frame, chains etc. will take the torque and speed... Also would be good to use higher voltage battery (and BMS?) if I have learned anything about ebikes.

Here is another helpful video of someone upgrading their Rover. He did side by side tests comparing before and after the upgrade. Definitely worth a watch if you're looking into buying the kit.
