Quote from: Mtolesen on July 16, 2024, 06:20:27 AMIt is the little reader, with the red LED that sit next to the plastic disk with the magnets, thats called the PAS sensor, and a wire with a small 3 pin plug comes out of it.
Thats the one i need to buy somewheree, but where?

Probably you may need to contract RAD for the part.

General Chat / Re: Gear Changes

Quote from: Geoffrad on July 16, 2024, 06:31:13 AMThanks for those responses. I have another 100 km experience with my RAD Rover 5 and have learned more about the gear shifts.  I understand there is no "automatic transmission" but i was curious if the gears were set up to sense tension and shift on their own because under stress my gears would sometimes change. I have adjusted the derailleur in and out to fine tune it and now it doesn't happen as often.  It sometime will jump 2 gears when I change but that is easier to deal with then unexpectedly shifting to a higher gear when hill climbing.  ANd everything is hill-climbing around here. Leaving my house i have a 1.6 km climb to get to the trail.

Now i have a rubbing noise that is coming from somewhere between the pedal hub and the rear wheel. It doesn't sound like the derailleur.

These bikes are strictly manually shifted when tuned correctly.  You might need to take it to a bike shop for fine tuning if you can't figure it out.  YouTube has tutorials on the subject.
Another possibility the chain might be dirty and need cleaning.  That can cause noise.  Sounds like you don't have many miles on the bike but the chain will stretch over time and can cause some issues.

Is it inside the controller box? or the one attached to read the magnets?

Try ebay or amazon.

Are you missing magnets? Are they clean? What are your symptoms?

Quote from: Hytech on July 14, 2024, 02:08:49 PMThanks Guys!

Inoxa, can you name a West coast repair shop that I might be able to get a new (used) battery end cap with charge indicator and ribbon cable?

Not that it matters, but I'm in Calgary Canada

These 2 are the ones I have reached out to in the past.  There are others.

Congrats.  You went further than I would have gone.

They call them planetary gears.  They can be purchased online.

Quote from: Hytech on July 13, 2024, 10:36:30 AMPS. I see 3 pins in between the + & - output terminals. What are they for? There is no connection inside the battery to these pins. There is only the + & - red and black wires that connect to the BMS.

The extra pins are probably for alignment.  I have the older version and that is what they are for.

There are battery repair services on the west coast.  You might inquire with them about parts.  Maybe reach out to Rad to see if they can assist with troubleshooting, but they would prefer to sell a battery.

I understand how you feel.  But it may be that it is difficult for them to take their hands off the handle bars at that particular time.  I know at times I can't do it.  I wave when I can.  I sometimes nod but it may not be noticed that I have done so.

Someone has opened one up and said the magnets were loose and needed regluing.  It is a recent post but not on a Rover 5.  The repair was a "Rad runner hub rebuild".  It was originally listed July 7th.  Hope this helps.

Too bad with low mileage you are experiencing the problem.
Those motors are good for at lease 16k km or 10k miles.

Radster Road / Re: Radster Road Review
July 11, 2024, 11:10:42 AM
The ebike market seems to be saturating now.  Holding off might get you a better deal in a year or so.  The used market is getting dirt cheap.

Also the issue now - batteries have a higher import tax from China.  So that might not allow prices to lower much.

Quote from: jastewart325 on July 11, 2024, 08:24:05 AMI have had a City 5+ for a couple of years and of course was curious about the Radster Road. This new bike is obviously intended as an improvement over the City, and I was curious how much lighter it would be than my behemoth. Answer: It's about 10 pounds heavier! WTF?

which one is heavier?

You might consult with Area13.  They are a good source of information and may have what you are looking for.  Not sure they will have a better price.  I would call or email Area13 and see what your options are.  They do have a 1000 watt motor that might work.

Maybe a bike shop can lace your current motor on a rim they stock.

Quote from: bertram on July 09, 2024, 03:40:23 PMHow easy was the front basket install? Just ordered the rack for the front and have concerns about the wiring harness being in the way. The rack will hopefully be my solution to securing a spare battery for the Bike for longer rides.

I would recommend the rear basket instead.  Front baskets will make steering a little odd on US bikes.  In Amsterdam they are better balanced for front loads.

Personal preference is the smaller basket over the larger one.  All my groceries fit in the smaller basket anyway.

You could just store the battery on the rear rack without a basket.  Or you could mount a second battery on the rear rack.

Also to consider is center of gravity.  Lower the better.
