Which Rad bike are you referring to?  If it's one from the previous generation (not the newer semi-integrated designs AFAIK),
JiminPT, how do you know if you have a previous get or the semi-integrated one...I have a RAD expand 5?

Do all RADs have the same spoke diameter, or are the smaller (20x4) tires have thicker spokes (like on the Rad Expand 5)?  Before I go out and buy the spoke wrench.  Thanks everyone, I'm learning a lot on this Forum.

I'm nearly 70 y/o and 5'1" and RAD recommended for my height the RAD Expand 5, I can put both my feet on the ground (more the ball of my feet), but I feel stable at a light and am ready to go with a little throttle. My pedal stroke is "ok/adequate" but if I could use some more length, and wish I could put the seat back (not up or down) a bit, I might have a better pedal stroke.  However, I put the small basket on the back (and it is very useful) so I don't have the clearance to put a different seat post "layback" style. But I am riding more then I have in the last 5 years and very happy with the choice (Read my post on that I did change out my shifter and upgraded the derailleur).  Now nothing stops me except the excess heat.

General Chat / looking for RAD riders in Portland OR
August 02, 2022, 11:47:20 AM
Hi I'm in NE and looking for city riders available during the day for some rides.  Also love to do the old highway that has been blocked off for bikes and pedestrians, but need someone with a SUV or truck to get bikes there.

Well I went ahead and bought the small basket for RadEx 5, and I have to say I love it.  It's durable easy to put a shopping bag in it (with bungie cord) and I hold my lock in it as well. Very versatile and looks good on the bike and not too big and not too small. Worth the purchase (but hate a $10 shipping fee from Seattle to Portland OR)!!

RadExpand / basket on RadExpand 5

$70 is a bit much for a basket unless it totally useful.  Who has put the small basket on the RadExpand 5 with what I assume is the rad mini rack.  Is it too heavy for this design since the bike is smaller?  I haven't found Rad listing the dimension or weight of it, and it have mixed reviews (mostly people buying the linner without the basket or visa versa), but I this any canvas bag should line it we'll enough for things that might fall out, also bungie cord would keep thing secure.  Does the ABUS fold lock fit, with a say fanny pack?

I wish Rad would honor an accessory purchase (first time) from someone who bought a new bike in April. I needed the time to see what I needed.  They should put these out there periodically anyway!

here is the file of the derailleur

I have a RadExpand 5 and didn't like the shift leaver or the microshift derailleur...crapy shifting.  But I had a bike shop replace the micro for a mid-level Shimano derailleur  and a grip shifter and it smooth as can be.  I am able to shift more efficiently and not waste the battery staying in a gear because of bad gear shifter. Worth the money to have the modifications done.

So I had a bike shop change out the leaver shifter for a grip shifter (I hate the micro shift derailleur  will talk to Rad about this at some point). They had to take the throttle and put a L hand side one one and keep the grip shifter on the R.  See pics 1st  is original and 2nd is the modified one.  Works so much better (but a mid range Shimano should be on this bike)

Well that is darn clever!  What are the dimensions of the tote container and how high is it when loaded in to the container (w/o your basket).  Thanks I want to see if it's will fit into my Leaf like that!!  I love the wheels parts.

I have answered this in the general "new model" forum, but it bears repeating.  I do not like the leaver button style shifters because they hurt my thumb (which is so not cool).  I am wondering if it can be substituted for a grip style shifter (I have this on my non-bike).
