I have a good bike shop neR me,they sell Avegtons, good service.
I agree, you get what you pay for.
RAD support told me to video of a noise at 12 mph, lol junk company selling junk.

I don't agree, Rad Support is over the top. One just needs to communicate with them In my experience with them, They have treated me well in the past.

I totally agree with santacruzpaul. My customer service experience with RAD has been really good. Beyond any of my other ebike brand transactions. I'm impressed by their customer service to date.

seanerino--excellent first review. And it parallels my early experience so far as well. Thanks for taking the time.

Controller went sideways after 70 miles. The numbers became jumbled for everything. I could still tell the speed, but that varied with each numeral. Same effect on the clock, total miles, etc. But everything did work--I just couldn't see the numbers on the controller well. RAD sent a new one. Unfortunately rain has hampered my riding since then so I know it works but we'll see how long. I'm guessing they have this figured out. Though a few on this site have had controller issues, RAD sells very large numbers. I once had a Sonders and the controller went out. They were very reluctant to send a replacement. CS was almost impossible to reach. By that comparison RAD has been top shelf on the CS side so far.

General Chat / Re: Bike rack with ramp
April 29, 2022, 03:05:25 PM
I have the Thule Easy Fold--2 bike rack. It's built for heavier bikes and has a ramp. Easy to put on the car hitch and surprisingly light weight. The rack is a smart design in many ways. The one ouch--pricey. $900.00. But it's the best rack I've ever owned including the previous Kuat for our e-bikes.

I'm interested. Not sure how you want to handle this.

General Chat / Re: Helmet Recommendation
April 26, 2022, 03:35:45 PM
I have several helmets. My newest is the Thousand Chapter with visor. Everything I want in a quality helmet: MIPS, Dial adjusted fitting, good ventilation; light weight; LED light on back; and FIDLOCK magnetic chin strap.

If you are very unfamiliar with mechanical things, and it looks like you are going to kill yourself, then by all means spend the money.

If you have some competence with bikes and mechanical things, it would depend on the value of your time and whether you see it as a fun activity or a chore.  Putting a bike together is not that complicated.  I think I spend less than 4 hours doing it and learned how my bike is put together.  So if assembly is $200, I made $50 an hour for 4 hours and I don't have to pay tax.  With the money you save - you can usually buy all the tools and still come out ahead.  I had a lot of fun doing it.

As a beginner, you may make some mistakes. One mistake would be turning the front fork 360 degrees before mounting the front wheel.  But, if you take your time, eventually you will get it right.  It is a good time to learn how your bike works.

A bike higher maintenance than a car but it is not complicated. For example, you would have to adjust the brakes, adjust the seats, fix flat tires, adjust the shifting etc. So you might as well learn how to do things.

While a bike shop is nice, I don't like having to wait pack my bike, take it there, and come back the next day for the fix, and pay lots of money (relative to doing it yourself).  Most of the bike shops are honest folks but I still like to just do it myself.

Once again, if you are truly no good in mechanics and putting things together or no good with bikes, then spend the money.  You can get seriously hurt if you don't know what you are doing.

I think Eric7 gets it about right. I've built bikes delivered to my house in a big box. Most people can manage it. But--I opted for the pre-built mobile delivery RAD service for my new City 5 Plus. I ordered the bike on a Thursday and it was at my door--all built--the next morning! So I avoided the lengthy delays people talk about. And yes--a free tune up came with the service as well at the 150 mile mark. However--RAD has now closed most of its RAD Mobile services. They're still using Velofix so if that's available in your area that's a good mobile option for sure. Since RAD's mobile units are defunct, they did provide a free tune up via Velofix which I can schedule at any time since I paid for it via RAD mobile.

RadCity / Re: Optimal Tire Pressure Radcity5 Plus
April 16, 2022, 11:45:01 PM
I've been running 50 psi on my new City 5 Plus step thru. It feels stable with a good ride feel at this pressure. Much higher makes the tires feel 'harder'. I have the Tannus inserts so don't know if that affects the Rad tires but I have them on my Trek ebike also and the ride feel and composure is similar at similar tire pressure.

RadCity / Re: Rad City 5 Plus Water Bottle Location
April 16, 2022, 11:24:37 PM
Gzila. A bit pricey but gives a range of angles for easy bottle access. Bolts on to the front of RAD where the 4 bolts are. Can place bottle on the left or right. Or both.

Hope you're back to 100% soon. If it was a 'prank' whoever did it is a sad sack. If you know who it was they should be dealt with. Seriously. This goes well beyond a prank. The person who did it is not well.

Quote from: Rover on April 12, 2022, 12:44:47 PM"Face Diaper" was the first ignorant salvo.

My point was about people who are so fearful on a daily basis that they will wear their strap-on inside their car when driving alone - as can be easily observed daily in my small town.  Now how does that accomplish anything at all, other than just adhering to blind fear, and why is it "ignorant" to point out the uselessness of doing so?  Who's being "protected" and from what, exactly?

I will agree with you that this is veering off-topic, although related to the phenomena of many people now trained to be fearful as their first reaction to new experiences, including encountering e-bikes.

and my point is that you made an irrelevant, asinine statement. Your excuse that were making some sort of point is equally asinine.

If someone wants to wear a mask in their car, that's their business. They're not hurting anyone. I don't tell you to leave your cult, or stop being brainwashed, because that's your business, even if it may very well hurt other people.

Tree,  Please be nice, No need for admonishing good people, Allot of people here have Great info and knowledge.

and some people are armed with poor knowledge and asinine statements, and should be called out on it. this isn't a place for someone's politics and ill-conceived opinions.

I was beyond lucky. I ordered on a Thursday a week ago to have it built and delivered by RAD Mobile from Portland. It was at my house the next morning at 9:00 AM. Unreal. I figured it would be weeks. Turns out the Mobile group has quite a number of RAD's ready to go once an order arrives.

"Face Diaper" was the first ignorant salvo. But now 'let's call it a draw?" And then the November thing. Not sure how that's relevant to the topic at hand. But one thing is clear from this thread, not everyone on an e-bike is suited to be an ambassador to better e-bike understanding. Or much else it would seem.

This is a very good topic. In my experience the glove size varies by manufacturer. In the end I've concluded, despite having medium size hands, most large gloves are a better fit for me. Almost without fail. YMMV.
