Schwalbee Big Ben's or Schwalbee Marathon's are great tires for the Rad City.

Thank you JW

RadCity / New Tires
August 25, 2022, 10:01:54 PM
I have the RAD City 5 Plus and am racking up the miles quickly. I?ve seen a number of comments slamming the stock tires. I have no idea to be honest but I?ve also seen commentary that they are very qood quality albeit not the best. When I get to the point of replacement, what recommendations do people who have experience with other brands say? What are they and why are you in favor of those tires over the stock tires?

Thanks in advance.

I may not understand the problem but since you?re in the Seattle area why not pop in to the RAD site and get the new keys?

Thank you for the info. Yes this helps. I am going to add the seat post for some comfort. I changed the seat. I am 5'7" but I am more comfortable with seat up high preventing me from properly reaching the ground so I am wondering if this bike is a good fit for me or not. I purchased the city 5 plus because of the handlebar neck height and upright ride. Otherwise I like the bike and agree after shopping locally the RAD seems as good or better than what I saw. I want to ride a rover to compare. Supposedly a new RAD shop is opening in Brooklyn next month so I may have to go there.

Thank you again for the reply.

I can add I'm 5'8" so similar to you. I like the seat high enough for me to get reasonable leg extension when pedaling. I would think you're fine structurally to be a good fit for the City 5 Plus.

RadRover / Re: Tannus on the Rad Rover 6 Plus
August 22, 2022, 08:04:13 PM
I've had Tannus on several ebikes (including my current City 5 Plus). I'm having them installed next week on my Rover 6 Plus. I've had nothing but a good experience with them. No effects on the ride or anything else I've noticed. Except.....no flats! Which is the point. I have nothing to say about other systems. My experience has been with Tannus and I'm very pleased. YMMV.

I own one of each. Love them both. In truth--they're very close siblings. Almost identical motors. Identical batteries. Same shifters (in most cases, or at least very similar). Both are 7 speed. I ride them the same way (I always minimize my electric support). Last week I rode 38 miles with my Rover and still had 8 bars showing on the battery (not the PAS gauge). All that said, I sit more upright on my City 5 Plus. I have the Suntour seat post 400mm on both bikes which allows me to raise the seat as much as I want. I lean forward a bit more on the Rover. I've thought about adding a stem riser but I find after long rides, e.g. 40 miles, I feel fine. I don't know if this helps. These forums tend to draw people who have problems or grievances (not judging the merits). I've observed the same dynamic on the car forums I've been on for the last 20 years. But these bikes are fabulous. I had 6 ebikes before the RADs, some at the twice the price. Nothing I've had compares to the RADs. Don't know if any of this helps. BTW--I'm 73.

RadCity / Re: Thinking of water bottles

I like the idea of the Ukrainian bag--thanks for sharing. But I've already invested in the Gzilla system (on the list of suggested accessories Ryan posted). It attaches to the from stem where a front rack or basket would usually go. It's a bit spendy but it is fabulous. Plus--you can have two bottles, one on each side. And you can adjust the holder so the bottle is more facing the rider for easier removal and re-insertion versus the usual upright bottle holder position. I have it on my City 5 Plus and Rover 6 Plus. Highly recommend.

Several YouTube videos illustrate how to replace the fuse.

As Ive posted before I had similar trouble with the battery on my Rover 6 Plus. I thought I'd done something to short the fuse. Got myself in the RAD response system--had to send photos, video of plug in procedure, etc. About a week later I thought I'd plug the battery in just to see what's going on. Shocking (no pun intended) in that it charged!! Instead of showing green meaning charging is completed (which it showed previously despite the battery showing less than full charge) it showed red. In an hour or so it showed green. The battery now showed a full charge. I sent pictures of this to RAD. My assumption was bad battery. But a RAD technician called me to explain what is happening. Apparently the battery can receive an experience that implies a short (my words not his). But--these batteries can do a re-set on their own internally. He said these are the latest battery technology and most advanced batteries for RAD to date. He assured me the battery was now fine and I won't have any problems. So far he is correct. I've ridden and recharged the battery a couple times now and all works perfectly. How weird is all this? But all's well that ends well.

I spoke with a RAD tech today (someone you can't speak to when calling the toll free number). He said the RAD City 5 Plus and the RAD Rover 6 Plus (two of their most current designs) are almost twins. The only motor difference is sizing because the Rover has fat tires and the City has thinner tires. The tech was very knowledgeable about RADS in every respect we covered. But the motors are in every performance and standard respect the same. There's a lot of stuff posted on forums like this that are at best, uninformed. For some others it's frankly just axe grinding without revealing why.

i can't speak for EVERY Rad Bike, but I'm pretty sure most of them have a universal key - meaning anyone can buy that blank and take your battery off.
[/quote]

"Just to clarify that.  You don't need to buy a blank and have it cut.  The blank will open the lock.  That's been known for 2 years, and they've done nothing about it.  That makes them slightly worse than the entire Masterlock Company, because at least you can't do the same thing with any Masterlock lock." [quote}

I have a City 5 plus and a Rover 6 Plus. Both have the identical semi-integrated batteries and locking system. You cannot unlock them except with their own keys. I've tried it based on this thread. These are new generation RAD bikes. If it was true that even a blank would unlock most batteries in the past that theory is no longer true, at least with two current models.

Here's a place that does battery repair and might be able to help. Worth contacting them  Hi-C Power, 877-912-0939. Google them for more information

That is a bummer for sure. And I'm having a similar battery issue with my brand new Rover 6. But the warranty on the bike--all of its parts--has expired. It would be nice is RAD gave you some grace since it's such a low mileage bike. On the other hand, the battery is no longer under warranty. I can see your point, and also theirs.

I?d contact RAD. Is your bike under warranty? If so?don?t waste it.
