Has anyone actually received an email from Rad announcing the pricing changes? If so please forward it to me Ryan at ebikeescape . Com

Forwarding you the one I got 3 days ago.  New prices not stated, but confirming increases after the 29th of December ("Prices will rise at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Time on December 29, 2021"); guess that'll be our Christmas present from Rad along with new keylocks that can't cut the power to a parked bike.

Nice tip on where to put the lock.  I had not noticed it.  Great idea.  Thanks.

You're quite welcome.  Here's another closeup pic in case it's useful, an earlier shot with an earlier seat and before I rearranged a few things.

Quote from: Eric7 on December 17, 2021, 11:15:14 AMThe minis are great bikes.  They are so relatively cheap right now.  A mini with an extra official battery is less than some other models.  I would suggest that a mini with an extra battery will outrun any other rad bike.

I still can't figure out why anybody would choose either of the Runners over the Minis, which offer more versatility, folding, more features and a lower price.  I think the Runner Plus is $500 more!  What do you get for all that extra money?  Is that bench seat really that valuable compared to putting a rack and a seatpad on the back of a Mini for the occasional times it would be useful?  And that (horrible, from all reports) stock seat is not easily replaced with a Cloud 9 or other comfortable seat, given the seatpost/rack geometry.

Even the new Runner, which now costs $1,499 ($200 more than either Mini), still has one gear, no real display, no front suspension, same motor and battery capacity and doesn't include the back seat, pegs or grab bars, which cost extra.  If this is the right frame size for you, GET A MINI before they're replaced with a $1,600+ model.

I just don't see it; what am I missing?

Quote from: RadBoleyRad on December 16, 2021, 10:56:17 AMI don't like bike racks hanging off a hitch or trailer bumper especially the weight of Ebikes.

FWIW, that rack I use is designed for dirt motorcycles and is rated to at least 350 lbs on a 2" hitch receiver.  After socking down the included stabilizing clamp, it's as solid as a rock and doesn't move a bit even when I jump on it with the bike strapped down.  I was sort of amazed actually.  Anyway, I think it's a viable option for those who are considering a hitch rack, at a much-lower price than the Hollywoods, although there is no 2-bike version.

As an aside, I found the folding feature a very-attractive aspect of the Minis as well when I ordered it, but since buying it in March, I've folded it exactly twice - just to figure out how to do it.  As I've added more and more mods and accessories, I doubt it would come close to folding as small as shipped from the factory, and the hitch rack means I never need to do it.

I feel like I really missed out on the prices. When I first bought my mini 4 in 2020 it was $1599 now it's $1299.

Until the end of November, you could have bought two of the Minis (either one, mix and match) for $1,150 each with the discounts available at the time.  I paid $1,450 back in March for my Mini ST and it stings a bit, but I certainly don't regret the summer of fun riding!  Now she sits in a very cold garage waiting for warmer weather and the new Bolton 35A controller/display upgrade.

Ive read owner reviews that have put they're folded Mini's into a large tub or tote to transport them in the back of an SUV or a PU truck bed for protection.Has anyone on this site done that and what tote box did they use?

There are two that are claimed to fit that I'm aware of:

https://www.lowes.com/pd/CRAFTSMAN-50-Gallon-200-Quart-Black-Tote-with-Latching-Lid/1000976084

Here is a pretty nice video showing how to fold them into that second tub for carrying:

I went this route instead for my Mini ST; the ramp allows me to walk it on/off the carrier under power using "walking mode" (hold down the PAS down-arrow), no lifting required:

I got mine for about $130 delivered; there are almost always HF discount coupons available by searching online.

Yowza.  My Mini ST just tucked its tail between its legs and backed away.

The downside of any security system is that it is heavy and it is with you 100% of the time.  If you carry it you need to strap it down or else it just bangs on each other or the rack and destroys it.

My second post in this thread, above, shows how I mounted an ABUS long-shackle U-lock and heavy cable to the side of my small basket, in case somebody might find this useful.  The included ABUS lock mount works extremely well in that location (which is good, because it's the only location that works on the Mini ST frame); sturdy, doesn't rattle and it's always out of the way, yet accessible.  I almost never use the cable, but it's there if the situation calls for it.  The bungee net also helps hold the cable tightly in place.

While we are whining:   Another stupid change from RR 5 to 6 is there is now no battery fuse on the battery to protect it from a host of glitchy power  related events.   So now, if the gitch happens, your battery is toast.

A forum member, I think it was "DickB" posted a thread about this in the last few weeks when he repaired one of these new batteries for a friend.  There IS a fuse, but idiotically it's buried and the fuse holder is soldered directly to the circuit board, requiring disassembly of the battery shell and removal of some shrinkwrap weatherproofing to get to it.  But once you excavate the location, it just slides out like any other fuse.

Truly stupid design, especially when they've been shipping a good, fuse-maintainable, design for years and could have shoved it into the new-battery designer's face and just said "do it THIS way".

Rad has clearly gone backwards on a number of irritating details in the new designs; I'm happy with and keeping my MiniST 2, although I added a small u-lock to prevent theft of the battery with a blank key, just in case.  I'm thinking of putting my new upgrade controller into a plastic controller box to help protect it - this would require losing the new lock for it to fit, so I have to decide.

controller screen shots

Thanks very much for the info, Ben; I'll compare with other settings-lists I've collected.  I expect I could use these or something very similar on my Mini Step-Thru with very similar geometry and components.

Received my Bolton upgrade a week or so ago, much faster than expected, but garage is going to be too cold to install the mod for a few months.

If you don't get that one I SWEAR by the NCX by Suntour for about $90 from Amazon!!   I ended up returning my FIDO and Cloud9 as I was much more comfortable with the stock RAD seat and the Suntour NCX adjustable post!!  RAD ON!

Getting one's butt dialed-in to suit with a seat and/or post is like buying shoes - you just have to try stuff to see what works best for you individually and yours is a much less-expensive package.  Nice to have so many options to mess with!

For anybody interested in a Redshift suspension post, they're on sale at Amazon at the moment, which doesn't happen often, and this is as low as they ever get:  https://amzn.to/3F0K2xK

I installed the 350mm version, along with a Cloud 9 seat (https://amzn.to/31TCUF4), on my 2021 Mini Step-Thru in early summer and this combination worked great to cure my buttaches - definitely recommended, even though I paid $23 more than this sale price and thought it a pretty good deal at the time.  Extremely well-engineered and well-made product and comes with extra spring for extra-people; no other parts needed to buy.

You'll have to install/remove the seatpost a number of times to get it dialed in for your weight and road conditions (adjustment is from the bottom of the post), but once it's set up you'll never have to fiddle with it.

Way to go, Dick; nice work and I'm sure she appreciates having a working spare now.  Seems like a pretty dumb engineering design to prevent easy inspection and access to a 10-cent part that's designed to break and be replaced.  Reminds me of the new keylock design that can't shut down power to the bike at all.

Looking at the Cloud9, but wondering. After upgrading, do you miss the handle under the stock seat? I like having the handle for moving the bike around, but am finding the seat uncomfortable.

I settled on a Cloud 9 after trying 4 others (including a different Cloud 9) and don't miss the handle at all on my Mini Step-Through, but I've installed the rack and small basket, so I can just grab the forward edge of the basket if I need a lifting point there.  Really love the Cloud 9 model I settled on, which is combined with a Redshift Shockstop suspension post - that combo eliminated the previous buttaches.
