Hi - would love to know if / what you end up deciding on. I kinda wish there were a couple more cogs on my RadRunner 1 for when cycling  :-\

General Chat / Security skewers / axles - advice needed!
« on: June 19, 2020, 11:36:54 AM »
With a lot of bike theft in London, I was concerned about how easy it is to take the wheels off my RadRunner with those quick release skewers You see a lot of bikes missing wheels, or random wheels, locked - where the rest of the bike has been stolen  :-[

I came across the below, which have security keys and the axles go up to 140mm on the front wheel and 180mm on the rear wheel. With the fatter tires on the RadRunner and motor on the rear wheel - it makes it a bit more complicated...  ???

https://www.pitlock.de/en/shop/quick-release-protection-more/set-03-en/set-03-lh.html

I really don’t know much about bikes in terms of how to compare the necessary lengths, but do you think that these be suitable for a RadRunner, given that you’ve got fat tires and the motor on the rear wheel?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers in advance!

Chris

Sounds like a great project. Are you tempted to try and put a front suspension fork on your RadRunner (if possible)?

Sorry for the delay in sharing some pics on this.

As you can see, slightly irregular positioning of the bolts, and used some larger washers - but looks great overall and does the trick for me!

Thanks Ryan. Sadly not on the EU website yet.  :(

Still waiting for that and the fenders for the RadRunner to become available.

Thanks Ryan! Really appreciate this - this forum certainly confirmed my decision to go ahead and buy my RadRunner in the first place!

Does anyone know of any alternative headlights that one could use for our Rad bikes?

I guess the wire connection is fairly standard in the Ebike world, so was curious if there were any alternative makes of LED headlights?

I guess how you mounted it would be a limiting factor though...

General Chat / Alternative basket
« on: June 05, 2020, 12:17:42 PM »
Needed a basket for my RadRunner and couldn’t wait for our friends to restock the basket accessories. So did a bit of research and just took delivery of the basket...

Electra Linear QR Mesh Low Profile Basket - https://www.trekbikes.com/gb/en_GB/equipment/cycling-accessories/bike-bags-baskets-panniers/bike-baskets/electra-linear-qr-mesh-low-profile-basket/p/14476/

I took a punt, but the holes line up with four of the holes in the rear rack frame well enough to securely bolt the basket straight to the rear of the RadRunner. Looks great too. Will share a pic when it stops raining.

I've got a pair of these: https://www.cycl.co.uk/collections/winglights/

You stick them in the end of the handlebars (taking the rubber stopper out), and by twisting them with the nut on the end them compress and expand to fit your handlebar.

Had to use a different nut to the one provided, as weirdly the RadRunner handlebar gets narrower inside. They're in there pretty securely now.

Only negative is that possibly not as visible in the summer sunshine.

I founds that the Hefny mirrors kept falling down when riding them (not when it's clamped to the handlebar, but the joint hinge).

Possibly because i was riding it on cobbled streets in london, and the RadRunner doesn't have suspension...?

General Chat / Seat post recommendations for heavy riders
« on: June 02, 2020, 01:03:44 AM »
Morning all,

I hope you're all well and keeping safe.

After doing 20 miles on my RadRunner on the potholes and cobbles of London streets - am really keen to get a new saddle for my bike as I really felt the seat towards the end of the ride. However i'm finding that the challenge is the seatpost...

Not that knowledgeable, presumably something with some flex or suspension would help and compensate for the fact that the RadRunner doesn't have suspension? Or should i just go for a standard rigid seatpost and make sure that the saddle is comfortable? Or ideally a combination of both?

The seatposts which flex or have their own suspension appeals - but the problem i have is that i'm a "heavy" rider and most of those types of seatposts have a max rider weight limit.

Any advice over what combination to go for, and recommended seatposts, would be really much appreciated!

Just to flag - being based in the UK, i may not be able to purchase some of your recommendations this side of the pond.

Thanks in advance!

Chris

Welcome Bob and Chris! Thanks for joining.

Chris - keep in mind you will lose out on the seat being flush with the rear passenger seat. Also with a suspension seatpost the minimum height of the seat will also increase. Not a deal breaker for most but just something to keep in mind. Most people I have seen who have upgraded to a suspension seatpost find it to be a great upgrade. I will be sharing my thoughts in a video once I get to test it out. Our RadWagon doesn't have suspension either so I imagine the improvements will be similar.

Thanks Ryan. I'm quite a heavy rider, and i saw that some of the suspension seat posts come with a rider limit too.

Hey all,

I'm Chris, from London in the UK. Hope you're all well. Just took receipt of a Radrunner a couple of weeks ago and am loving it. I know that the motor is capped at 250W, but for flat roads of London i'm loving it! Waiting for Rad to have more of the fenders and baskets in stock, as well as the premium light.

Always keen to personalise and customise. A Bolton controller down the road might be something that i go for, although i'm finding the control panel (although basic) very easy to use while cycling to reluctant to do so. Just got some Hafney mirrors and looking at my options for indicator / turn lights.

Also on the list is a new more comfortable saddle, although i think that means i also need to get a new seatpost as well? Given that the Radrunner doesn't have any suspension, i don't know if a suspension seatpost would be an ok compromise.

Cheers,

Chris
