Title: Front wheel release for transport
Post by: Springtide on December 16, 2020, 09:11:16 AM
Hi!
I'm considering a rad rover for my son. I'd probably be dropping him off in neighboring areas to ride with his friends or picking him up at the end of the day so he's not riding all the way home in the dark.

Is the front wheel release quick and easy enough to use to remove the wheel for transport or does putting it back on require a higher level of precision than can be done in a parking lot a few times each week? I'd ideally like to be able to load the bike in my hatch back rather than get a rear mounted rack.

Thanks for the insight!

quite easy:

removal - lift axle skewer handle on left side of wheel axle to loosen. remove axle skewer keeper nut and spring on right side of wheel. remove axle skewer noting spring locations and orientations. carefully lift wheel axle out of fork drop-ins.

installation -  insert axle skewer from left side into wheel placing axle skewer springs in proper locations and orientations. loosely screw keeper nut on right side of axle skewer. set wheel axle into fork drop-ins being careful to align brake rotor between brake pads  - skewer springs on outside of fork drop-ins. slightly tighten axle skewer nut on right side of wheel axle. press axle skewer handle down on left side of wheel to lock. check that wheel installation is secure.

see 3:50 mark in video above for front wheel install.

The Rover is a big bike, you may want a motorcycle rack....

Keep the plastic base on the fork that it is shipped with and reuse it.
There is actually a utube video that mentions the topic.
