Rad Rhino 750W controller issues with PAS (video attached)
« on: March 05, 2023, 11:04:37 AM »
Hi all.
I have received a new replacement 750W controller from RAD which replaced a damaged unit.
All other components / connections fully serviceable as checked and swapped over from my other identical and serviceable bike.
The 750W controller is brand new and a replacement for another brand new 750W controller which behaved in exactly the same way.
I?m completely stumped.
Anyone any ideas?
Thanks

You should add to the post the problem rather than the video.  I didn't know there was a video until after I logged in.

Which model Rad do you have?  Only the controller has been replaced?  Maybe some settings on your display that need to be configured.

The distance between my magnets is much greater than yours.  Probably 3mm at least on mine.

I assume you cleaned the magnets and sensor....Possibly a bad sensor....mine when on turns red.

Hopefully you sort it out soon. Good Luck.

When you pedal back and forth, the frame wiggles. Maybe there's a break in the sensor wiring or a loose connector, and wiggling establishes momentary contact.

Thanks for replying Inoxa.

Not sure how to add the post to the problem rather than the video? Will change if you tell me what to do.

Rad Rhino 5 (2019) with 750W motor and throttle setup.

I have 2 identical bikes.  I have swapped the controllers between the 2 bikes and the fault moves across with the controller.  I.e. the PAS sensor set up on this bike works correctly with the other (2019) controller.  And yes its all cleaned up.

Thinking this was a PAS compatibility issue, I purchased a generic PAS sensor and plugged it in to find it does exactly the same thing.

I have the original (2019) controller as well which was replaced for a different fault but it still actually works with the current PAS sensor so it can definitely be ruled out.

I?ll change the title of the post to include info about the video.

Thanks again

Thanks Handlebar

Definitely solid connections everywhere.  Tight and clean.

Cheers

Radpower has instructions for replacing a PAS sensor, but I don't know how to tell if one is bad.

Possibly the wiring harness.  Maybe has a break in the line some place?  I have also read some have brake sensors causing power problems.

Will it work if instead of pedaling back and forth, you pedal backwards?

I just discovered that the sensor is directional. The Bolton video for setting their upgrade display says C1 is labeled PAS sensitivity, but it can also adjust the direction it will pick up.

Thanks for the help.

It was the controller.  The trouble is I now only get 600W!

I have posted separately as a new thread so see if there is a fix for this.

Thanks again
