Title: Comprehensive List of Accessories for Rad Power Bikes
Post by: Ryan on June 24, 2019, 02:48:04 PM
I thought it would be good to have an easy to consume list of all commonly recommended accessories for Rad Power Bikes. In some cases these are Amazon links to the same products Rad sells directly on their website as accessories and in other cases they are alternative options for accessories. If you have something you love on your Rad please share it below. Note where applicable these are affiliate links which help support the maintenance of this site. I will continue to try to keep the list organized as it grows. If you're looking for an easier to view list you can view the same list over at my website Ebike Escape: https://ebikeescape.com/electric-bike-accessories/ (https://ebikeescape.com/electric-bike-accessories/)

Hey everyone, I've been adding to the list over time as I find accessories that many Rad Power Bike owners are using. There are tons of options of bike accessories but I'm looking to add the simple choices to remove the decision fatigue. If you know of anything I am missing or have something to share that has been a game changer for your Rad please share it here.

P.S. Thanks for supporting the forum. If you end up purchasing an item above from Amazon I receive a small commission which helps pay for the hosting costs of the site.

Very helpful, thanks. Like many new Rad owners, I am in the midst of acquiring accessories. So far:

Hollywood Rack (found one locally yesterday!)
Abus frame lock and chain
Suntour suspension seatpost (beware, these come in different sizes so check before ordering - note to self)
Hafney mirror - arriving today

(wanting a rear basket, may replace the seat soon and should replace my helmet)

I ordered this cell phone holder, I'll let you know if it's any good once I get it: https://www.q-mount.com/?fbclid=IwAR2Skl_fbzig8O0koFJohX4t9Doh2J0u8184XLhjBO-ZF2qJp3beVIL0C1E

Hi Ryan just checking the accessories list for spoke size for a Rad Rhino but the only info I can find is all Rads use 12 gauge which is not helpful when shopping for replacement. Any chance of a link to a specific size? I am getting extremely confused. Thanks

Hi Mic, my understanding is your RadRhino also has 12 gauge spokes. So you can either get the Park Tool SW-3 (blue): https://amzn.to/3iqoTRY

Or you can buy something like this which will work on other bikes as well: https://amzn.to/3kvIthN

Let me know if you have any other questions.

You may want to remove the wheel and brake pads, and clean the brake disc and pads with automotive brake cleaner. That should fix the noise and restore your braking power.

Great list Ryan! Are you trying to feed our addiction? Lol. My problem has been every accessory I wanted is unavailable from Rad, so I had to look for alternatives. Most important was a rack so I didn't really have a choice. I went with a West Biking "almost universal" rack, and it fits the RadMini 4 fine. It clamps to the seat post and has adjustable supports, but I made some custom one-piece supports for improved strength. It will firmly support 200 pounds now in it's modified form, but I have NO plans on doing that! It just carries my rack bag with tool, lock, and a light jacket, all of which weigh about 6 pounds.

My current necessities/accessories are:
Roam bike helmet with visor, goggles, and taillight.
West Biking rack mentioned above.
Zfal universal bottle holder, which works nicely on the handlebar riser for the RadMini which has NO bosses! Anywhere!
12 Oz one-handed Thermos which happens to fit the bottle holder.
Nit Ize Wraptor cellphone mount.
Bell two stage folding tire pump.
Bell large U-lock with cable extension (No theft warranty on e-bikes!).
Master level 5 cable lock for quick stops (restroom stops, coffee, etc.).
Sahoo 8 liter rack bag (love it!).
Satori Harmony suspension seat post.

I also got the Hafny small end mirror, but it was terribly distorted and I returned it for a refund.

The headlight upgrade was something I wanted after the first night ride. The stock light is nice and bright enough, but the beam pattern is too small. I purchased the Nitecore BR35 which can function and a lowbeam/highbeam headlight with a remote switch, but there is no part of the handlebars which is straight. So, I ordered a handlebar extender for acessories.

Ha! My goal is to make the list that I wish I had when I first bought my RadWagon. How do you like the Satori Harmony suspension seat post? Do you feel like the Nitecore was worth the price? I really like the one I tested out from Planet Bike.

The Satori Harmony suspension seat post is ok. It's nice for smoothing out sidewalk cracks, but not enough for anything bigger. The geometry is not great for absorbing bumps either, but it does work. Another problem is that it's too short. I have it adjusted to the maximum height level, and my leg extension is still a bit too short.

The Nitecore light was definitely worth it, and I love being able to switch between low beam and high beam. I had to use a handlebar extension because there is no available portion of the RadMini handlebar that points straight ahead. If I could change something, I would design it with the low beam aimed lower, or more recessed so it has a lower cutoff point. As it is, I have to angle the light down so even the low beam does not get people in the eyes, and the high beam is aimed for the same spot, making it less useful. So what I do is keep it aimed low on the road, then adjust it higher for lonely trails. The other thing is that I'd hoped to charge it from my bike USB port, BUT, when you plug in a charger, the light turns off! So much for that idea, lol.

Despite those two issues, I do like it a lot, and it actually saved my bacon a couple night ago. We have a new trail following a major highway, but I found a secret access to the old bike trail on the other side. It's overgrown and no longer maintained, but I like it better. So I was trying out the new Nitecore light, and some wild animal came charging out of the woods and began chasing me! Needless to say, I used the throttle, and found myself going full speed on a dark overgrown trail through the woods, and if I had only the stock light, I probably would have crashed! So I do appreciate the light, and may experiment with adding a little 'brow" to block the top of the low beam.

Photos of the light, mount, and remote switch are below.

Hi Ryan, great job on the site.  For what it's worth, I was looking for the Suntour NCX (400mm) seatpost AND the red spring for riders over 180 pounds.  I couldn't find the spring at Amazon or elsewhere.. turns out that the Suntour site is very easy to deal with.. the post @ $109.95 and the spring @ $14.95 turned out to be $112.41 total which included a first time customer 10% discount.  Free shipping and no sales tax.   They shipped the same day I ordered it.

I'd suggest Tannus tire armor for anyone wanting an extra level of bump absorption if they have fat tires. It also helps address a multitude of different causes for flat tires but the smoother ride from an extra internal layer of foam in the tire and the correspondingly lower PSI requirements are what I appreciate the most.

Hi Ryan, great forum & this is a fabulous accessories/mod list. I'd like to get a suspension seat post. Can you help me determine some proper specs? I'm confused by the seatpost specs needed for the new RadWagon 4.

On the Rad Power site it states the RadWagon 4 Seatpost diameter is 34.9 mm

In your list here it says to get the 27.2

What are the dimensions I need to get? And do you have a link for a suspension seat post for the RadWagon 4?

Cheers!

As I continue to research maybe I also need a seatpost shim?

But I'm wondering since the RadWagon 4 has a new unique smaller tire size with only 1 option to purchase which is the Rad Power Bikes, custom 22" x 3"Manufacturer: VEE Tire Co. 22

maybe the seatpost size is unique too?

Is there an option whether it be a suspension seat post or combo suspension seatpost with seat shim that will fit the RadWagon 4?

yikes.....

In the meantime I ordered the Sunlite Cloud-9 Bicycle suspension cruiser seat. I saw on Amazon that some RadWagon owners had a little trouble fitting it. I'm hoping for an easy install. I'll keep the forum posted on my mods. Thanks!!

okay another post from me as I google search haha.....

I'm seeing some people need to double shim!  They buy 2 shims to get the correct specs. Of course I can't find anyone doing this yet for a RadWagon 4

but as the RadWagon 4 website notes: the SR Suntour SP!@ NCX seatpost compatibility: ALL ebike models EXCEPT RadWagon 4

So if I understand correctly I need a 34.9mm suspension seat post. So therefore I might need to double shim!

I might need to look for shims that would be: 34.9 to 31.6 AND 31.6 to 27.2

Or maybe.....shims: 34.9 to 30.6 AND 30.6 to 27.2

As you can see I'm an excited NEW Rad Power bike owner. Trying to get my RadWagon 4 with a SWEET set up! I'll let you all know what I end up doing  8)

I'll cover this in an upcoming video, but the only suspension seatpost that *might* work is the Kinekt 2.1. You'll need the largest size they sell, the 31.6: https://amzn.to/34T9ogi

Then you can buy the 31.6 to 34.9 seatpost shim: https://cirruscycles.com/collections/parts-tools/products/seatpost-shim?variant=10558432903212

Again, I have not tried this myself and it's critical that you realize that you will be limited on adjustability. Hope this helps!

Hey GoPam,

For what it's worth, the Cloud 9 saddle is a perfect replacement for the stock seat on the RadWagon 4 and thus there is no need to replace the seat post.

You just need to completely disassemble the seat mount and replace the saddle portion.

Keeping the stock seat post allows the stock seat-adjustment range to be maintained, which is important to me as I am quite tall and my wife is on the shorter side.

You may not get as much shock absorption as a suspension seat post, but I find that the Cloud 9 is leaps and bounds better than the stock seat. I live in a small town with lots of brick-paved streets and the ride (while not perfect) is acceptable with this seat.

Here is the one that I purchased:

Thanks for the info Ryan!  And Jason you're maintaining hero status with me big time!

I actually purchased the same cloud 9 seat as you. Yesterday I tried to install it but I couldn't budge the screw on the stock seatpost. These pictures are not the best quality but I think the stock seat post where it attaches to the seat is damaged? I'm thinking maybe the first bike owner swapped out the seat. But then swapped it out again to return the stock seat to the bike before selling it to me. I recall seeing a picture in the for sale ad with a different seat. And perhaps the seatpost got a little jacked? Unless you think in these images, the seatpost parts are just not properly aligned?

But either way, I couldn't even get the stock seat off! I have been healing from a torn thumb ligament so perhaps my hand strength is lacking. Maybe I'll ask my neighbor to give that screw a crank. But.....

I found this seatpost on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08K7N3CC2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They have different size shims to order, so I ordered the  27.2 seatpost that comes with a 34.9 shim. I think it will work since the RadWagon 4 says 34.9 seatpost size on their website specs??!!

So my next plan is to mount the cloud 9 on the DJC Suspension seatpost. Crossing fingers it will work and be delightful.....I'll post my findings......

Hey GoPam,

I just measured my seat post with a set of calipers, and it looks like it is exactly 34.9mm, so your new seat post should work. The only downside is that you will lose quite a bit of height since the seat post tube is so low on the RadWagon.

Here is the bolt that needs to be removed to get the stock seat off:

Mine was pretty tight from the factory, but I was able to use the included hex wrench to get it loose.

By the way, it looks like you still have the stock seat. Here is mine sitting on the bench:

Hey GoPam,

It looks like your seat post might be damaged. Here is a picture of mine:

It looks like yours might be either assembled incorrectly or perhaps the bolt is bent:

You should be able to completely remove the bolt on the right side of the seat post which will free up the saddle allowing you to completely remove it from the bike.

Cheers,

Jason

Hey Jason,

Yeah i saw I have the stock seat still. I thought it looked like the seat post is damaged. I tried to remove the seat but I couldn't get the bolt to budge. I also decided to stop trying because if the seat post is damaged, then I'm screwed if I remove the bolt and the whole thing falls apart. If the seat can't attach to a broken clamp/seatpost, then I can't ride :( For now it seems sturdy enough so I better leave it alone.

And I figure ordering replacement parts will have MAJOR delays in the mail right now.

That's a bummer about losing seat height with the new seatpost. I didn't consider that. But I'll still mount the cloud 9 to the DJC suspension post when it arrives. This way I'll have a new option to try and I'll also remain having the stock option.

If I find I miss the higher seat height then I think I'll probably need to buy a replacement stock seat post from Rad Power Bikes. Or I can try to muscle off the bolt and hope the broken bits come back together again securely. But again I'm not trusting they will.

I always appreciate your precise information and photos Jason! You rock!!!!!

So just a heads up that JCcycles seller on Amazon canceled my order of the DJC suspension seat post. They said they’d refund me & gave NO reason why they canceled my order.
Then I received another email stating the order has been canceled & the reason is “customer canceled” which I did not.
I’m waiting to see if they indeed refund my $ the transaction still says pending.

So I might be looking at Ryan’s option if it will fit the 34.9 on the RadWagon 4

Or I might need to double shim!!

Hi Ryan, so I have a new question for you. Here's my situation. Currently I don't want to remove the RadWagon 4 seat from the oem seatpost in case it is damaged. The seat is holding together on the seatpost ok for now. I saw in one of the for sale photos....that the previous owner had a different seat installed but then he switched it back to stock before I bought the bike.  It looks like the seat attachment might be broken but it is holding for now. I don't want to attempt to remove the seat in case it falls apart and then I would not be able to ride. I want to keep the stock/oem seat and seatpost together so I always have that option or for however long it lasts. Mine does look like the seat attachment might of been broken by the previous owner.

The RadPower bikes website does NOT have a RadWagon 4 replacement oem/stock 34.9 seatpost for sale.

I did purchase a cloud 9 seat that I'd like to use. So alternatively, instead of looking for a suspension seatpost, are there any 34.9 long seatposts that you can recommend?

Or are there any 31.6 long seatposts you recommend? - Then I'd also buy the 31.6 to 34.9 seatpost shim you recommend above.

I'd like to at least use my new cloud 9 seat but I think it will be best to attach it to a new seatpost. Thanks!!

Or are there any 31.6 long seatposts you recommend? - Then I'd also buy the 31.6 to 34.9 seatpost shim you recommend above.

I'd like to at least use my new cloud 9 seat but I think it will be best to attach it to a new seatpost. Thanks!!

Not sure I'd be much help here. I'd probably just order a few parts from Amazon that have the option of free returns if it doesn't work out. Telescoping seatposts are kind of new to me and I'm not sure if shims are recommended in scenarios like this. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful here.

I know this was directed towards Ryan, but Amazon has a 450 mmm long seat post that is 31.6mm in diameter. Then you can use the seat post shim from Kinekt.

Your damaged unit was assembled with the shell not seated into the head, and clamped down. The bolt may be bent, but the rest of it should still be ok. Wished you lived closer because I like fixing issues like this.

So far I've only gotten OEM parts, oops the front dual water bottle holder is NOEM,  I did find a Right Hand Mirror,

You can see the rest of the decked-outs, in my profile photo, Tons of ABUS security systems, literally.  I plan on adding Hexlox everywhere I can.

Hi Guys, I'm trying to find; where I can buy the factory standard battery mounting plate (just the plate) no wiring. I am creating a second (spare) battery mount for longer trips, I want it to be lockable and sturdy (like the mounting factory battery base plate). I will mount it to the front or rear rack on my Rover 5.

I have the RadRunner Plus ST and am interested in a few upgrades like:

the bafang 750W replacement motor and controller/display upgrades,

a possibility of a decent windshield,

handlebar extenders, (to add more stuff to,)

Bike seatposts that can bring the seat down to near factory height and comfortable seat replacement,

bike shelters/tents for camping and storage,

eBike compatible plug-n-play alarms,

lights with turn signals,

 wheel/tire replacements including non-tubed setups,

an under rear rack box that can also accommodate a secondary battery and the controller that's lockable,

Panniers/Storage that are solid waterproof boxes, more/better storage options,

waterproof controller box for under the bike,

drink holder to accommodate a can not just bottles,

and a bike cover.

I'm particularly interested in an alarm that's integrated into the lights and such that also has GPS tracking via an Android App/Google Maps. It should also have turn signals.

Seatpost/Seats to actually upgrade to Plus to with suspension for the driver.

OH where's the bolt replacement for the quick release front wheel?!? Why doesn't it actually come with it?!?

My current setup minus the large basket I put on the front:

so, i quite like the look of the reflective rim tape linked here, but i'm having a little trouble telling what diameter i would need for the radwagon 4. the rim size doesn't seem to be clearly documented for the custom tires used on this bike. anyone have any more data on that? i tried measuring, but i'm genuinely unsure if i'm measuring it right (and i get something off from the available values for that store page, seems like somewhere between 18" and 19")

Not sure if this mirror has been suggested yet but I have this on my RW4 and it works quite well thus far. I mounted it between my left grip and the bike controller making sure not to let the bolt touch the bell (which would make it inoperable).
When I have more time I will read through all 4 pages and study the list a bit more,.

Thanks for putting this list together @Ryan  8)

Unfortunately, I think he only makes the standard sizes. On Amazon you can select 20" or 26" ebikes. However, he's a super nice guy so if you go to his website I'm sure he'd sell you a custom set (he did some custom work for my branding).

Ryan, you might want to consider adding your referral link with the Redshift ShockStop suspension seatpost to your list.  It fits perfectly on my Rad MiniST2 with no mods and is a well-designed and well-made product.  Comfy with my Cloud 9 seat.

https://amzn.to/3j7cBBr

At the moment (17 Aug 2021) it's on sale at Amazon, knocked down from $230 to $190 which is a pretty good deal for a product that's not cheap.

I'll cover this in an upcoming video, but the only suspension seatpost that *might* work is the Kinekt 2.1. You'll need the largest size they sell, the 31.6: https://amzn.to/34T9ogi

Then you can buy the 31.6 to 34.9 seatpost shim: https://bit.ly/337la9C

Again, I have not tried this myself and it's critical that you realize that you will be limited on adjustability. Hope this helps!

Hi Ryan thanks for the feed back on spokes.
I also contacted Rad Europe and they provided me with the following info. for my Rad Rhino which may be of interest to others.
This is all the information you requested about the spokes:

Spokes   12-gauge, stainless steel, black
Spoke length front   258 mm
Spoke length rear   220 mm
Spoke tension (front, rear)   100 kgf

Detailed Specs is what most manufacturers supply, as a guide of some kind.  You can buy a manual for a John Deere 1932 Model B, Mechanics, Owners, Parts.   (ok that's public domain by now)

The right to repair issue is still in flux.  just wiki right to repair.  BTW John Deere and Apple oppose this the mostist. Pun intended.

Hi Ryan,
This is a great list and I'm currently in the market for upgrading some of the accessories for my Radwagon 4 so it's very handy. However, I looked at some accessories from the list here as well as from the list you have on your Ebike Escape website and was unable to find a way to order several items without paying separate shipping fees for each item. That gets prohibitively expensive very quickly.

Is there a way to purchase items through you, from several Amazon vendors, and still only pay one shipping fee? In that way we can support either the forum or your Ebike Escape website?

I recommend the Pedego cell phone mount $29 if you have your phone in a case it’s very solid. I have a Ram mount Roto X too but I find the Pedego less obtrusive. Of note the Pedego is not the same as the Rad Branded cell phone mount. The Rad one isn’t as versatile in my opinion.

I think the Pedego in your photo is a branded version of this one on Amazon, which I bought some time ago and like very much - it's super solid once you get it adjusted and everything tightened down: https://amzn.to/3kZCrrz

Somewhat less expensive than the Pedego version, too - they cycle up/down in price and appear due to drop a bit below $17 again soon - that's what I paid.  My Samsung S10e inside its thick Otterbox Defender case is at the outer limits of the width range, but fits fine and holds fast.

The Northern Tools bike carrier is no longer available. You should change it to this the Fultyme RV 1300 rack. It's the same exact product, except for the box it comes in.

This is a wonderful list!  Can you get it pinned?

I myself was just working on a list (or search) it may change daily.

Add on, mods, useful things available to the 3D printing community.  I use thingiverse.com a lot.  It is a public domain HUGE collection of 3D files.

There are 20+ on there one might find useful.  Two search strings bring up most things "radpower" and "rad power".

I've downloaded the ones that will probably fit my needs.  There are 10's of other repositories free like Thingiverse, and not...  Happy Hunting!

Hello everyone!

I am new on this forum and this is my first post.
I am about to recieve a RadCity 5 Plus Step-Thru with a medium front basket.
I am planning to set up a kid seat at the back: a Thulle Yepp Maxi.
My bike will stay outside in my garden and I will use it daily.

My question: do you know a good (and not too expensive) outside cover for the wole bike + kid seat ?

I thank you for sharing your knowledge!

Hopefully you'll hear back soon; there are forum members who do the same thing.  I have a lightweight rain cover I can slip over my MiniST when it's on the back of my truck, but it's not the right thing for daily outside storage.  I'm sure a dirtbike or motorcycle cover would work, but you'll have to size it appropriately for your kid seat and other accessories.  But it's possible to buy covers to handle the gigantic Gold Wings and Harley baggers, so your solution is out there.....

I'm thinking to fabricate my own basket for the rear rack (on a RadExpand 5 and/or RadMini ST2) but I can't find out what thread size the mounting holes in the rack have. M4? M5? They're smaller than the screws factory-installed in the holes for any future front rack.

Or I might want to mount a rear-facing paintball minigun (https://www.thisiswhyimbroke.com/ca/paintball-minigun/) for those aggressive tailgaters. The trick is to use an assortment of colours so that some are guaranteed to contrast with the original paint job. Or maybe not even load it at all, if it looks real(ish).

Great idea for this list...  My mini hosts many optional accessories but the best 2 by far were the suspension seat post and changing the handle bars to that of the Amazon procured RAD City 3 style.  I can ride all day comfortably now and I am 220 lbs.

I agree with the suspension seatpost; I added a Redshift model to my MiniST2 a couple years ago and love it.

Would you mind linking to the handlebar you like so much?  Thanks.
